The Carbon Trust

Conceiving and launching a new business venture in under nine months.

Challenge

The Carbon Trust is an independent company funded by the UK Government, whose role is to help the UK transition to a low carbon economy by helping business and the public sector reduce carbon emissions while capturing the commercial opportunities of low carbon technologies.

Carbon Trust Enterprises is the commercialisation arm of CT, and engaged Edengene to help identify, develop and launch successful private sector ventures in the low carbon arena that are responsive to identified market failures, in turn creating valuable, commercial businesses.

 Edengene's Approach

In close collaboration with CTE, Edengene:

  • Evaluated a range of 10 commercial opportunities in the low carbon sector,
  • Developed 4 detailed propositions including financial projections
  • Selected one of these 4, a carbon related employee behavioural change proposition, to be taken to full business plan, funding and launch. This later became The Low Carbon Culture Company*.
  • Assisted in a successful launch and provided support to create an initial sales pipeline, built out the business’s core intellectual property and expanded the range of service offerings.

Outcome

  • Business plan completed January 2007
  • Investment paper approved for launch and funded by the main board of the Carbon Trust, February 2007
  • Launched in March 2007
  • Sales pipeline primed and initial blue-chip clients engaged between April – June 2007

In Summary, Edengene helped CTE conceive, plan, develop and launch The Low Carbon Culture Company in under nine months.

* The Low Carbon Culture Company uniquely combines long range sustained change management capabilities with the knowledge and credentials of the UK’s leading authority on carbon to drive meaningful cost savings, carbon reduction and improved credentials for major private sector organisations

Clients Testimonials

“We briefed Edengene on a speculative opportunity on new business models. They very quickly understood the issues with a round of stakeholder interviews and discussions followed by internal analysis. They came to some well considered options from a raft of possibilities and proposed recommendations in a clear, insightful and target-relevant way. I found Edengene to be proactive, efficient, insightful and they delivered useful solutions which we will implement. I enjoyed working with them and would recommend them to others”
